Do you have any plans for this character in the game? If you know Ace Attorney, then you know therapy basically doesn't exist in their society! As such, Phoenix and Maya never really confront their feelings or process the trauma they've been through. Now, through RP, I can force Maya Fey to talk about her problems with her friends, especially thanks to how much she loves helping others with theirs..

Questions:
1. Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them. How would your character act once someone got to know them?
Before meeting Phoenix Wright, most outsiders to Maya's community might assume she is meek, hesitant, and deeply proper. Now that she's had three years of freedom to open up, Maya is boisterous and loud and unabashed. Others meeting her tend to assume she is a long-time social butterfly, and she loves to play up the cute and mischievous card in the presence of good reactions. Even courteous characters like Professor Layton are sometimes confused by her absurdity and believe her to be careless.
Spending more time with her… actually doesn't reveal much more. Much like her pal Phoenix, Maya can be a bit cagey about her feelings. She is so determined to maintain a positive outlook and stay strong for the sake of her baby cousin that she can seem like a pollyanna to those who never get to see her take things seriously or get upset. It's easy for others to miss the more graceful side of Maya as well, when she's so wrapped up in sunshine and mischief.
Only people who have earned her deepest trust– and have convinced her it's not a burden– get the chance for any serious time with Maya about her feelings. Considering Phoenix barely gets this privilege himself, it's not every day that someone gets Maya without her walls down, even if she'd never consider the upbeat personality she puts on to be fake.
2. What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
While it's true that being a medium makes Maya pretty unique among others, in her own family, her special ability isn't rare at all. But she still manages to keep a more upbeat, hopeful, and trouble-making personality than most of the Fey women, retaining her childlike wonder and her ability to love the things she encounters wholeheartedly. Maya Fey really knows how to enjoy things with her whole heart, and a lot of her hope— and her mannerisms— probably come from her favorite stories.
Growing up isolated from people outside her family on cult in the mountain, Maya didn't have many examples for how to socialize with outsiders, even if the rules within her family itself were strict. Her refuge from overly rigorous training and the sharp tongue of her aunt was her love of samurai movies, tokusatsu tv series, and super heroes– especially The Steel Samurai, who combines all three. Her adoration of samurai movies governs a lot of her other interests, too; scary women with swords, beautiful men with severe expressions, TV wrestling, poker— okay those are a little less samurai related, but in general, Maya hasn't ever found the idea that her interests could be 'masculine' to be a reason to discourage her from loving them. In addition to broadening her interests and giving her more in life to enjoy (to the chagrin of her aunt), movies and shows like this gave Maya the hope to believe in heroes and justice.
3. What does your character think their flaws are? What do they think their strengths are? What are their actual flaws and strengths?
Though she'll act like she thinks she doesn't have any flaws at all much of the time, Maya doesn't actually like herself very much thanks to the constant talking down she got from her aunt growing up. It's not that Maya doesn't think she's cute, for instance, but being cute or pretty or smart or funny is something that doesn't save her from the judgement of other mediums or do anything to earn her the "gifts" she's been given as a daughter of the main family line of Kurain.
She doesn't believe she's anything more than a mediocre medium. She believes herself to be lazy, troublemaking, and sometimes even annoying. Oftentimes, she thinks she's useless to Phoenix Wright and the law agency. Sometimes, she even thinks it would have been better if she was the one who had died instead of her big sister. Maya considers her lack of experience as a lack of knowledge, and often privately thinks of herself as stupid in comparison to others.
Maya's flaws are a little more complex than that. She often tries to manipulate people into helping her instead of asking in a straightforward way, because subconsciously she believes that people won't help or indulge her if she doesn't. She doesn't have dreams of her own, she doesn't believe in her abilities, and as exuberant and happy as she can be, she can also be sad and bereft of belief in herself. Her playfulness and teasing is rarely ever spiteful, but there are times when she can go too far– and sometimes her unwillingness to confront her feelings and talk about them make others think Maya doesn't take tragic things seriously. Her lack of care for herself leads to a weak sense of self preservation, and Maya can make bold and brash decisions for the sake of others that end up putting her in grave danger instead. Undervaluing herself makes other people frustrated in their worry for her.
But Maya's strengths are made apparent through the eyes of others in the series. Mia and Pearl, her sister and younger cousin, who are regarded by others as actually being very talented mediums, refer to Maya as actually being quite adept despite being a late bloomer. They describe her spiritual power as being very strong, and perhaps even stronger than Mia's. Mia also regards Maya as being spiritually strong in the emotional way, pointing out to Phoenix that Maya is more resilient than any of them. Edgeworth remarks on Maya's kindness; he's both observed the care she treats Pearl and Phoenix with, and has been the object of Maya's unwavering defense.
She fights for people with her whole heart, loves with her whole heart, lives with her whole heart. She is compassionate, tries to be understanding, and even when she can't understand, tries to be accepting. Often, she's the more empathetic voice between herself and Phoenix. She can find a way to light up dour situations, pulling motivation out of nowhere, and when someone is in need of physical care, Maya is attentive and helpful.
Maya's biggest strength is that she is hysterical, though. She's charmed fans for years with her wit, and her belovedness is well deserved.
4. What is a common misconception other characters have about your character?
When someone seems to enjoy other people's presences as much as Maya does, it's pretty easy to assume that person would have a long history of an expansive social circle. She can make conversing with strangers look easy, but it's not out of experience as much as it is a lack of shame. Maya doesn't actually have the social history people expect of her; she's only been out of her cult hometown and allowed to socialize with others for the past two-years-and-five-months. Much like Rapunzel when she comes down from her tower, Maya is simply enthralled by the outside world and eager for the chance to make friends.
Characters also often get the impression Maya can't take care of herself or others, writing off her silly attitude as being irresponsible. However, Maya was subject to rigorous and exhausting training during her life, has been in charge of taking care of herself since before she was ten, and was one of the primary caretakers of her younger cousin (who is ten years her junior). Forced to be on her best behavior for 17 years for fear of punishment from an aunt who would eventually try to kill her, Maya's mask of silliness is not an act of irresponsibility, but of life-saving rebellion. She chooses to see the good side of things and to be silly and joyful in a way that stands against all the ill that has been wished on her during her life from a family that hates her simply for being born the heir.
Contrary to that assumption, when Maya plays cute to manipulate people into doing or buying things for her, it isn't because she's too irresponsible to do it herself. It's the same feeling as when a person buys fast food out despite being perfectly capable of cooking; having things done for you is an act of care. Maya has lived a life where she was deprived care from mother figures and lacked father figures altogether, so she gets care the best way she knows how; by goading others into paying attention to her, cooking for her, buying things for her, etc.
Character Abilities: Maya has spiritual abilities, which she alleges are not magical, but for all intents and purposes OOCly totally count as magical.
-Ability to channel the dead: While I don't know how much this would actually come up, Maya has the ability to allow spirits to use her body as a vessel to speak to others. When she has called a spirit into her body, that spirit changes the appearance of the body to look like their own, with the exception of being able to change the color/length of her hair (though style seems to change somewhat) or clothes. During that time, Maya's spirit goes dormant, which is described as being like a deep, dreamless sleep. In order to leave her body, the spirit must either choose to leave, or must wear down Maya's spiritual energy reserves until she can no longer sustain the channeling. However, Maya has been demonstrated to be strong and resilient enough to maintain channeling sessions for more than two days.
-Spiritual sensitivity: Maya implies being able to sense other people's spirits, especially that of her family, among other small details. These powers are not elaborated on other than as an explanation for why Maya is certain for a portion of the series that her mother was not dead. This ability seems to be most like the anime trope of extra-sensory perception and Maya is at times described (mostly in JP; this is usually translated in English as 'psychic, but not the fortune-telling type') as being an ESPer, suggesting that she's simply able to feel other people in the way in a sensory way similar to sight. It doesn't appear to actually give her any perceptive advantages such as understanding how close or far people are from her and just seems to be another part of the way spiritually-awakened Feys interact with the world. Also, it's specifically spiritual sensitivity, and doesn't appear to have to do with being able to read magic at all— more of a life energy thing than a magical capacity reading.

Any comments or questions you would like us to know? A funny meme is also welcome!
In addition to her memories from the trilogy, Maya will have memories of her experience in London from the crossover game Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney. It's unknown when after the trilogy PLvAA takes place and AA characters have no canon birthdays (we can only gather that it's between January and June, since she ages in that time), which is why Maya's proximity to age 19 is a mystery, but we're just goin' with it.
